The Meditative Art of Calligraphy
An Introductory Workshop
About Calligraphy
Calligraphy goes beyond beautiful handwriting; it is meditation-in-movement where the mind, body and soul come together in unison.
The process of creating a piece of calligraphy is like an experience of ‘celestial dance’ on paper… where you dip the bamboo pen in the inkpot, pause to take a deep breath and then put all your concentration on creating a visual masterpiece. It requires the discipline of focusing all one’s attention to each stroke. In today's fast paced life, Calligraphy is an art of being centered in the Here-and-Now.
In the introductary workshop, Aiyana will guide us, step-by-step, in the discipline and rhythm of creating the fundamental calligraphy strokes, using the treasure tools of calligraphy – the oblique nib reed pen, ink and paper. The workshop will be followed by the screening of a film on calligraphy- Tears of Dancing Letters.
