Contact Dance Meditation: Awareness. Connection. Playfulness. Sun, 4 Oct

for facebook oct lo res

We invite all movement lovers and seekers to an exceptional evening of dance, music and improvisation amidst the mystical green gardens of Zorba the Buddha.

Sailo's contact improv class begins with personal investigations, taking the body from the floor to standing, to build self-awareness and tune into our breathing. The class then focuses on building trust  through a series of exercises that later allow greater risk taking and being present and attuned to multiple stimulus created through dancing. Drawing on the influences of his contemporary dance training, floorwork, and working closely with Heidi Vierthaler in Streamflow Method, Sailo aims to introduce movement in a safe way and in proper alignment to release the body as well strengthen, while developing a range of dynamics and textures to bring a heightened state of awareness to ourselves and our surroundings.

We will then open the space to a journey in Improvisation jam, accompanied by live music in the background. Meet our self and others in movement, communicate and co-create through our bodies and individual expressions. Awareness, listening, playfulness, curiosity and creativity will be our guides.
Please come on time to be a part of the introduction and wear soft comfortable clothes.

We look forward to your presence and participation in this Dance!

*Prior dance experience not required.

Demystifying Indian Deities, Sun 25 Oct

Demystifying Indian Deities

Through Colours, Symbols, Metaphors

& Personifications

With Aparajita Barai

The deities were conceptualized in a visual language that is loaded with symbols, metaphors, colours and personifications. We will talk, draw, think and discuss to decode the meanings that have been lost over time.

Every god and goddess is representation of an entity that we can invoke within us if understood, experienced and explored in our lives. We will realize why these abstract qualities of strength, wisdom or abundance were given human forms like Durga, Saraswati and Lakshmi and certain elements were associated.

Through this presentation and workshop we will explore ourselves and make the deities part of our own self-exploration beyond the ceremonial rituals in a meditative way.

About the Facilitator

Aparajita Barai is a graphic designer and an artist. She has graduated from the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahemdabad and her masters with distinction West Design for Communication from University of Westminster, London. Her work shows influence from the folk style and reveals the intricacy of traditional Indian art form. Mythology and spirituality predominantly mark her subject. Her motive and vision is to re-stir Indian spirituality and philosophy and present it with personal quest. She aims to dig out the ancient treasures, meanings and possibilities that have got submerged under the ceremonial practices. She currently resides in Delhi and is the founder of Beloved India.

GONG BATH with San Jay Hallon, Sat 26 Sep

Gong Bath
Rest. Relax. Reconnect.
With The Travelling Gong Yogacharya San Jay Hallon

Gong Bath

It is to be bathed in waves of beautiful and timeless vibrations. The powerful vibrations of the gong transport us to another level of being and place where healing occurs naturally and the stresses of everyday life are gently washed away.

Often in a Gong Bath, Native American Flutes, Tibetan/Himalayan Singing Bowls, African Drums and Temples Bells are played, some times in conjunction with the Piano, Violin, Shruti Box or even Guitars and Voice. This creates a sound envelope and texture that is non-linear and trans-spatial. This allows you to integrate your intention and balance your body, mind, and spirit promoting a positive change in you.

About the Facilitators

San Jay

San Jay is a traveling Gong yogi who has taken a divine order or “Hukum” to spread the goodness of the gongs and its teaching to the world. He practices and conducts workshops on gong bath relaxation, meditation, gong yoga and sound healing.

A 1-Day Pottery Workshop with Neha, Sun 27 Sep

Pottery Workshop

Pottery Workshop 2
Ever been intrigued by the art pottery-making? Imagine learning it in nature’s soothing embrace! Here, at Zorba the Buddha, we have pottery classes every weekend. In this collaborative pottery workshop you can experience what a pottery class looks and feels like.

We will learn the following:
1. Slab-made pots (soft and hard)
2. Fun and easy forms of slab with decorative impressions on them
3. Learn Pinch Pot Technique, most primitive technique of pottery
4. Pinch pot technique combined with coiling for a more decorative effect

This workshop will be a fun learning activity as whatever pinch pot we have will be passed on to the next person and they will complete it using the Coiled Pot Technique.

In between all of this, we will have a breather session of a short active meditation or some simple fun stretching exercises, to keep the juices flowing! Towards the end, the facilitator will compose all or several of our hand-made pots together, giving them the final touches. Putting them all together, she will build an abstract composition or a pot sculpture which will remain here at Zorba the Buddha for all to see and cherish!

Body Mapping
Writing the Self
with Sara Matchett

hoperising2_web

Body mapping is a combination of Art Therapy and Narrative Therapy practices in its focus on the visual and written as a way of making sense of one’s experiences, stories, memories, and dreams/aspirations.

In this instance, the visual representation of the story/memory/event on the body map catalyses the written story/narrative/poem. The workshop involves creating life-sized maps of the body, onto which participants will visually map their lived experiences and dreams/aspirations. Thereafter they will engage in creative writing exercises that will culminate in the creation of poems.

Breathe to Heal

Connecting Our Breath to Our Body & Feelings

Breathe to Heal landing page 2

It is surprising, really, how changing something as basic as breathing, which we start doing as soon as we are born, has the potential to have such a deeply profound effect on our lives! Proper breathing is essential to good health and our emotional wellbeing. In this workshop, we will be doing very simple breathing exercises which can be done anywhere, anytime to release suppressed and negative energy from our body.

Here, we will do different kinds of 20 connected breaths and each exercise will benefit us in a different way. In this process, we reach a moment where inhaling and exhaling merge into one, bringing us immense relief.

The benefits of this workshop are:
1. The suppressed feelings and blocked energies will come to the surface and get released
2. One will be able to master the emotion of anger effectively
3. Becoming aware of our energies, we will be able to overcome illnesses in the body

We will start with welcome tea, followed by the breathing session. The evening will end with a beautiful dinner.
