Road to Shambala
A Limon-based Dance Workshop
A Limon-based Dance Workshop
This workshop is open for professional dancers and amateurs with a good base in ballet and contemporary (western) dance. Johannes Bönig will teach a Limon-based class which will be followed by rehearsal for a dance performance. Starting out with an elaborate centering exercise, we will pass on to a modern barre which incorporates ballet leg work, as well as, modern upper body movements. In the center, we will be moving though space in adagios, fast dance variations and jumps.
The second part of the day will be devoted to rehearsal for creating a piece for performance. We will work on a short choreography 'The Road to Shambhala'. Shambhala is the name of a mythical kingdom in Tibetan Buddhism. One could understand it as one's ultimate, personal key to happiness and/or spiritual realisation. The road to this kingdom nonetheless is paved with many controversial experiences. Here the participating dancers will have a chance to contribute with their own vision on what may happen to them if they took up the journey to Shambala. We will then perform this piece at Zorba the Buddha.
