A Workshop in Yoga & Contemporary Dance

The workshop is an attempt to finding inner connections present in the body and mind by exploring various tools presented by yoga, contemporary dance and theatre work. The class will have an hour of hatha yoga practice with mantra chanting, asana, pranayama and meditation integrated. This section will attempt to find "Flow" in asana practice progressively, so that, one can benefit from the dynamics of the seamless synchronization of energy, breathe and physical movement. The remaining hour, we will, explore contemporary dance and theater using improvisation with movement, text, sound and a partner.There will be emphasis on understanding the bio-mechanical functions of the body, which will help us in finding ease while moving and will also help us connect to our body. No prior experience, in either dance or yoga, is required for this workshop!


About the Facilitator


Founder and creative director of Danza Performing Arts, also an alumna of The Danceworx Performing Arts Academy, Swati is a dance artist (teacher,dancer, choreographer) and a spiritual seeker with keen interest in writing and acting. Trained in contemporary dance, jazz, classical ballet, yoga dance and bharatnatyam, she is also a certified Yoga teacher (Bihar School of yoga) and a visiting faculty member at National School of Drama. Teaching is her passion and her approach to movement and creation revolves around organic connections between body and mind. Her past works are “Glass on the edge”, “Doha” and “Ways of seeing”. She was invited as one of the choreographers for Prakriti Excellence in Contemporary Dance Awards, Chennai in 2012, Dance Omi Dance Collective Hudson, New York in Aug 2013 and Brooklyn Looks East festival of contemporary dance New York in Aug 2013.  Sketching dance for school students, theatre and dance professionals as well as experimenting with her- self keep her connected to universal creative energies. She believes in miracles, and dance choosing her after Zoology Honors and 4 years of an advertising stint is no less than a miracle for her. She continues to stay engaged in creative expression and in the process find many more miracles awaiting her.
