'The Joy of Movement with Mareike Franz'

What is moving me to dance? Where to start with? How may I express myself through movement?

The workshop is focusing on the Inner Strength that is pulling me for stretching out from inside.

Being aware of an inner movement first, relating to myself, relating to space, physical forms and techniques get alive – the body expresses itself. A movement, a dance, happens. This moment can be very small and fragile – as well as strong, urgent, joyful, maybe very funny – maybe it`s just about dancing.

Because a clear and pure movement base is needed for being centered, encouraged and present, this workshop is focused on a training first, preparing the body for the creative improvisation part.

Generally, the workshop aims for a deeper awareness of movement – as well as to encourage each student in their individual qualities and creative skills, listening joyfully to own expressive impulses.

Mareikes dance experiences are based on Dance Theatre, German Expression Dance and Modern Ballett: Her dance experiences are strongly connected with the dance theatre tradition, influenced by Pina Bausch and Susanne Linke, as well by the playful improvisation of expressionist dancer Gret Palucca. For Mareike, dance is not just about techniques, but about being human first.

About the Facilitator

 

Mareike Franz is a German contemporary dancer who’s work is based on German Dance Theatre Tradition. She studied modern dance at Palucca and Folkwang University and danced with Wuppertaler Tanztheater Pina Bausch, in solos by Susanne Linke, as well as in freelance dance productions. She is a member of the Young Academy of Arts Berlin. Currently, she is living in Berlin, working on own solo creations and is teaching dance.From September 2015, she is working again with Susanne Linke, dancing in her new dance company at Theater Trier, South Germany. Mareike writes lyrics, poetry and short stories and is interested in physical theatre and clown.
